I have the opportunity to trade my '97 Mitsubishi Lancer Estate with a 1979 MG MGB... Do or do not?
I have this
I can have this.
Same colour, not the same wheels. Keep in mind that I live in Norway, driving with the top down would happen perhaps twice a year.
Have som rather deep shade of purple for your troubles..

I am having no kids (as you knows) I am can trading wagon for roadster.
Reason I'm not sure is the fact that a '79 MG will hardly be the most reliable car ever.

Personally, I wouldn't. Think Wheeler Dealers. Give it an extra good look around, take notes on what it may need and how you think it would be to live with. Im sure your Mitsubishi is solid. If you think it would be rad, do it :]

The Mitsu is pretty much mint. And if I don't trade it for the MG I can spend my money on my '69 Beetle.. But as a single 33 year old dude, I must admit that a roadster is tempting :P

I'm not sure about the European models, but the ones in the US were pretty awful by 1979. They raised he suspension to meet federal headlight height requirements that made them handle worse than ever, they made the front anti-roll bar optional which made it worse, they hadn't upgraded the engine or transmission since the 60s, they increased the weight in a failed attempt to make them safer and lowered the BHP in a effort to make them run cleaner, and lets not forget Lucas wiring. All in all it was not the best effort put forth by the UK.

They did pretty much the same thing here in Europe :/ But as for wiring.. well.. Mitsubishi might as well have employed the prince of darkness (Lucas) in the nineties..

Oh it is dude. The owner of my dealer had me work on his Spitfire. It was an on/off budget restoration but when it was done, it was a blast to drive. Hella slow but hella fun. It's really a coin toss dude, I don't want you maybe get a troublesome car over keeping your reliable Mitsu. Im sure you'll make the right choice.

Understatement.

I think I need to sleep on it. Perhaps involve a friend of the female kind :P

I'm sitting here giggling. My wife is looking at me funny. This isn't worth trying to explain to her.

I'm not known for buying cars know for their reliability. My DD is a 73 Fiat 124 spider (superior to the MG by means of a dual overhead cam engine, and a 5 speed transmission), and my back up is Triumph spitfire. If you want it get I say. Deal with the problems later. If I was going to drive one in Norway though I'd want to check and make sure the heater can keep up with the cold there.

that's the spirit. After you spread the mayonnaise and she falls asleep, think about it again. Speaking of, im about to board my plane to go see my little wifey. Have a good weekend buddy

Just say, "Because I'm a nerd, alright?!"
That's what I do. My wife though, she's always saying that a guy who likes cars and such can't be a nerd despite my hoard of comics in storage etc.

That's the bumper they had on the late ones :/ Can't do much about that..

Conversion kit wouldn't do much good here, would it?

Not for the kind of money I'd be prepared to spend on it.. :/

the ultimate question is what would you rather be doing in your free time?
if you like driving, keep the Mitsubishi.
if you like working on cars, get the MG.

Keep in mind that I live in Norway, driving with the top down would happen perhaps twice a year.
There's no excuse for not having the top down when it's not raining, just put the heater up and put on a jacket when temperatures are low. Norway has ideal summers, when temperature's are over 30C like in southern Europe you wish you had an airconditioning and the top up.
But your question is not about lowering the top but if you should trade it in. Only depends on one thing: If it's the Daily Driver stay clear of it!
